Holidays can be lonely
Sometimes we are alone. At other times, people can surround us, but we still feel alone. The verses that provide the basis for this prayer remind us that God is always with us. In fact, we can't get away from him. God knows where we are, how we feel, what we need. We just need to open our eyes and hearts to see it.

Loneliness
L ORD, when people feel that all have deserted them, may they remember that you are always there. They cannot ever get away from your Spirit, nor can they run away from you. If they go up to the heavens, you are there. If they lie down in the grave, you are there. If they rise with the sun in the east and settle in the west beyond the sea, you are there to guide them and to hold them with your right hand. Remind them that even the darkness is not dark to you —the night is as bright as the day, for day and night are the same to you.
LORD, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
