Confession
L ORD, may those who have been addicted to any harmful thing know the joy that comes when their sins have been forgiven and wiped away. May these addicts confess their failures to you without trying to hide them and thus know your cleansing. Help them to live lives of complete honesty.
Remind them how it felt when they refused to confess their sins: their bodies wasting away, groaning all day long. Your hand of discipline weighed heavily on them until their strength was nearly gone, evaporating like water in the summer heat.
May they confess all their sins to you and stop trying to 10
t
hide their guilt and failures. Then they can know that you have put things right and taken away their guilt, and they won’t be subject to your judgment. Instead, you will be their hiding place, protecting them from trouble.
Surround them with songs of victory. Point out the road that they should follow. Be their teacher and guide who watches over them on this new path of freedom from addiction.
There is plenty of trouble for those who choose the path of wickedness, but your kindness shields those who trust in you, LORD. So, as these addicts choose to put their trust and confidence in you, may they find occasion to celebrate and shout with joy.
LORD, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
