Possessed or Possessing?
God once asked me, "Do you own your possessions or do your possessions own you?" It is a good question for each of us to ponder. If we own our possessions, then we can give them up. If they own us, then we can't. With today's inflation, bank failures and insecurities, there may be some possessions we need to give up. God challenges us to trust that as our loving father, he will make sure we have what we need. How much do we believe that?

Love of Money and Possessions
LORD, we confess
that we have grown tired of serving you
and have turned our worship
to the things of this world.
In fact,
we have so come to love our possessions and riches
that we cheat to get more.
We use trickery, extortion, and even violence,
and we no longer tell the truth.
We deserve your wrath and judgment.
Before you destroy us,
turn our hearts back to you that we may do what is right,
love mercy, and walk humbly in your presence.
LORD, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
