I sat in the shadow of the cabin of the ship, turning over my new pendant in my hands. Tiye had ordered it to be made for me. My only treasure, the piece of pale green glass I had been given when Mut-Bity had taken me to the hidden valley, had been embedded into a setting of gold and behind that my new name had been written. The Shadow of Isis. The form of the goddess should have come first, out of respect, but for some reason my name had been written first. It must have been created by the goldsmith's apprentice - that was the only way a mistake as obvious as that would have been made. Still, that made it look as though the wings of the goddess were protecting my name.
"You are a great one of magic," Tiye had said to me, "and that makes you a daughter of Thoth, of Hathor and of Isis, the great goddess who knows the secret name of Ra. Together they have created you in order to give you their knowledge. Thoth has opened your vision, Hathor has brought the dead for you to see, and the magic of Isis will aid you in learning your skills."
