He made his way down to the harbour, still seeking for traces of Layla. If they had arrived on the far side of the river, they must have travelled by boat; and if they had arrived on the same side as Ambrogio, they would most likely find themselves at the harbour at some point anyway. No one travelled any great distance by land in ancient Egypt. Why would you, when the flow of the river carried you inexorably north down to the Delta, or the winds from the north blew your sailing vessel so easily southwards? And so, the team would need a boat sooner or later, if they were to travel up north to Akhetaten. All he had to do was wait on the harbour side for Layla or any of the team who had been in contact with Dana. Their scent would betray them right away.
Ambrogio was almost disappointed. The hunt was going to prove to be too easy.
