I entered Professor Grigori's class as he was writing on the blackboard. Taking my seat, Gabriel nodded his head in greeting from his table across the lecture hall. Grigori went over to his podium, flipping through pages of text till he found his last stopping point.
“Can anyone tell me the importance of maintaining your human form and concealing your magick once you have passed beyond the walls of Brimstone?” Grigori glanced around the room as several people raised their hands. He pointed to a student in the front row.
“Not only is it pertinent that humans remain aloof to our kind so that we can feed and live normal lives, but to also remain hidden from Paladins, so we aren't hunted and destroyed,” the boy answered.
“Correct. And upon detection by a Paladin, what does the Demonic Oath state must happen?” The students glanced around the classroom uncomfortably.
I stood up from my seat. “Banishment from the Mortal realm upon detection. Death upon capture.”
“And why is that, Kasdeya?”
“To ensure the survival of our species and maintain the glory of Hell, our mother realm.” I sat back down as the students returned their attention to the front of the classroom.
Professor Grigori clapped. “I see our heir has excelled in her studies. As for all of you, you may want to take more notes concerning the subject if you wish to survive.”
I lowered my gaze to my empty desk as I felt Gabriel's eyes bore into me. It was simple to remember an oath, but it was different when you had to swear by it. A Paladin wouldn't hesitate to kill you, and the only way to survive it would be to take them down. I had never murdered another in my life, but I knew that time would come.
