This thing had to be the largest serpent that had ever lived. It was completely encased in armor-like scales and smoke was leaking from its nostrils. It wasn’t moving fast but almost leisurely as though it knew that its prey would not be able escape.
The men had all dropped to the ground and were lying with their hands behind their heads. They seemed to be praying. Gifu was looking at the creature, that could only be called a dragon, intently. She finally said to me, “It is not a construct. It is a living creature, perhaps one of the last of its kind.”
