“That sounds great. Sushi sounded great. Isn’t it hard to get reservations last minute at these places? How did you ever get us into Per Se?” I told Jade about our first meeting at Per Se and she nearly fell over. There was a four-month wait if you were somebody. A nobody could wait forever. Obviously Jonathan was more of a somebody than I thought.
“It’s a lot easier when you hold the future of their finances in your hands. I find a lot of doors open when you’re juggling people’s money.”
“That makes sense. Money is a powerful tool.” I would probably go out with Jonathan even if he weren’t paying me. For other girls, his money would have probably been the lure. Hell, who was I kidding? His money was what got us together. In what lifetime would I have had the opportunity to hang out with a man of his wealth and stature? Never. Dressed in my Forever 21 jeans and my H & M T-shirts, he would have never given me a second glance. Tonight would be my first real lesson in the buying and selling of commodities.
“Money, used for the right purposes, is a powerful tool. Put in the wrong hands it’s a dangerous weapon. Don’t forget that. And while we are speaking of dangerous, never give your address to a client. It’s not smart.” He had a drill sergeant quality to his voice. A tone I wouldn’t argue with.
