Without waiting for an answer, Emma pulls me to a corner table and sits me down. “What went on with you and Damon last night?” Her eyes are full of questions. I can see that she is on a fact-finding mission.
“Nothing. I told you everything. Why would you think that something happened? You were at the dinner. You saw what happened, and after that, we danced and he drove me home.”
She looks at me skeptically. “The fact that he accompanied you home is huge. Coupled with this”—Emma slaps down several hundred-dollar bills on the table—“I am intrigued.” On top of the bills, she places a business card. I look at the stack in shock.
Picking up the pile, I begin to count them one after another.
“You don’t need to count it, Kat. There’s $1000 there, and he gave you his card. You should read what he wrote on the back.”
I immediately turn the card over and see the inscription. Best night of my life. Please reconsider.
