Brazen, he drew still closer, never taking his eyes off of her. Hapless prey, she stood before him, chilled by the night air and violated by his stare. His shirt, soiled and tattered, was open to the waist. He set the lantern down on the rock where Nadeena had been sitting only moments earlier. With both hands, he opened the front of his shirt, slid it from his back, and casually tossed it in the water at her feet. Nadeena stifled a groan as the current wrapped it around her ankles like cold, clutching hands.
“Perhaps you are not aware of the animals that roam the woods at night; some are far more dangerous than others.” His breathing quickened as he moved in closer, one more step. “I will show you the danger, indeed I will. But I will not hurt you, not much.”
