When her phone rang, she looked at it with glassy eyes and saw that it was Kat. For a brief moment, she wondered why Kat was calling. Suddenly, Victoria shot straight up and out of her chair.
“Oh... My... God!” Victoria exclaimed as she picked up the call. “I’m so sorry, Kat. I cannot believe I did this.”
“Whoa, slow down. What did you do?” Kat asked, juggling the phone between her ear and her shoulder as she pulled her luggage through O’Hare International Airport toward the pickup curb.
“I forgot you were coming. I’m still at the office in the city. I’m so sorry. Grab a cab and I’ll pay for it. Okay?” Victoria said, standing, talking and packing up her work as quickly as she could. There was no response from Kat.
“Kat, talk to me. I’m so sorry, but I got my first real assignment today and it’s a big one and I’ve been at it all day and I barely took a break to go to the bathroom. Please Kat, say something. I feel absolutely terrible.”
