Victoria grabbed a cup of coffee, and as the first sips ran through her, she could feel her body return to the living. She walked out to the balcony and sat with Sonia while she put her running shoes on.
“Good,” Sonia said. “I was going to suggest you go for a long run this morning. It always seems to clear your head.”
“I’m running by the lake. Why don’t you come with me? You can walk and I’ll run and then catch up with you on my way back, and we can walk the rest of the way together.”
“Done. Let me get my shoes and I’ll come right back.” Victoria pulled Sonia’s tablet over to see what she was up to. She could not believe what she saw. Her name was all over with links to what seemed like hundreds of articles. Clicking on the one, she quickly read what was being said in the “About Town” section.
Victoria Rodessa was removed from her position in the Insurance Coverage and Transaction Group at Acker, Smith & McGowen yesterday. While many in the industry thought her to be on track as one of the elite up-and-comers in the rarified silk stocking, legal world, she’s apparently off that track and without a job. When asked for a comment, the firm said that for legal reasons, it could not answer any questions.
Victoria ran inside and found her mother brushing her teeth. “Mom! Did you see this? When were you going to tell me? What am I going to do now?”
