“Anna? The escort from the embassy is here, to take you to the airport, if you’re ready to go. Is there anything else you want to tell us?”
Anna shook her head before slowly straightening up and then standing; I automatically put out a hand to steady her. She tucked the information Ryan had written down for her into a plastic drawstring bag with the hospital’s logo on it before speaking again. “I’m sorry, no. They drugged us, they beat us, they raped us, and they killed my friend. They planned to sell us into sex slavery. I’ll be thankful for the rest of my life to Sarah, but there’s nothing else I have to say.” She gave me a small smile. “Thank you for not giving up on us,” she whispered. “I thought for sure I was going to die in that truck. Sometimes I’m not totally sure that this isn’t a dream. But thank you…I hope you understand that you truly did save our lives.”
