A reporter stood up for a question.
“Chief Ivey, what did you mean by, cutting wounds?” The reporter asked. Chief Ivey grimaced and gripped the microphone.
“Well… You see…” A detective in the crowd cut in.
“Ah just tell ‘em the true story! They got clawed apart! Shredded!” One of the cameras spun to the detective who spoke up. Realizing that all eyes were on him, he shrunk down. Chief Ivey cleared his throat.
“Well, yes. Generally, the victims suffer from knife wounds that resemble, claws. But this is likely from the types of knives the Ghost Killers are using and not anything like…”
“The Wretched Man?” A voice in the crowd asked. A commotion immediately erupted as several people started shoving the one who spoke that name. Chief Ivey ripped off his glasses furiously and stared daggers at the person who spoke that name.
“Who said that?! Who said that damn…” He paused, realizing the cameras were still on him. He coughed awkwardly and continued.
“Rest assured, the Callahan PD is on the case and will bring the Ghost Killers to justice. Until then we recommend everyone in Callahan to be smart and safe. Don’t travel alone at night. Lock your doors. Keep your head on a swivel. And if you see something, say something. That is all for the press conference. Detectives, stick around because we are going to have a meeting.” The reporter spoke up again.
“Wait! What about the other forty percent of homicides? How come the suspects all say The Wretched Man made them do it?” Chief Ivey pursed his lips.
“That is the end of the press conference. Please clear the room.”
