DOGS LOVE TO BE OUTDOORS. This is especially true for dogs that are kept indoors, because for them going outside represents a true adventure. Every single trip outdoors is just loaded with infinite possibilities. At least they were for Watson.
Of course, first thing in the morning, he’d be very excited to go into the backyard to take care of his business. Yet, no sooner had he laid all four paws onto the patio, he’d often ignore his bathroom duties in favor of bounding off in hot pursuit of imaginary creatures or an unfortunate, but very real and alarmed, bird. We never witnessed a bad outcome for either the real birds or the imaginary creatures. But then, a hotwired, hyper dog isn’t at all what you might call clever or careful. Just energized! Watson had retriever in him, so he could have easily taken a bird down, had he really wanted to.
But he didn’t want to. For him, all that deployment of crazy energy was never really about the destination. It was the journey that mattered most. He just enjoyed bounding around with endless intensity.
