Synopsis

Crystal ball reader Isadora Turgenev wants to prove she's up to the leadership responsibility of keeping Philadelphia staff safe from Hitler's occult attacks until their team leader can return from special assignment in D.C., but a Nazi spy murdered and assumed the identity of the temp secretary D.C. had assigned to fill the gap. The spy's mission is to steal an ancient book of spells coveted by Hitler, named The Book of Cures, but her obsession is to avenge her spy lover's disappearance by consuming the U.S. facility and all who live in it in paranormally induced flames.

Author Biography

JoAnn Smith Ainsworth experienced food ration books, Victory Gardens and black-out sirens as a child. These memories help her create vivid descriptions of time and place for her award-winning, WWII paranormal suspense series wherein the U.S. government recruits psychics to hunt down Nazi spies. 1. Expect Trouble was a runner-up in the 2016 Shelf Unbound Best Indie Book Competition and a semi-finalist in the East Texas Writers Guild first-chapter contest. 2. Expect Deception was a finalist in the 2016 Best Book Award in the category of Mystery/Suspense and a finalist in the East Texas Writers Guild first-chapter contest. 3. Expect Betrayal released during the pandemic. 4. Expect Obsession was finalist at 2022 Global Book Awards. 5. Expect Treachery is being written. Ms. Ainsworth is the author of eight published novels. Expect Betrayal (Book 3) will release in 2020. She has B.A. and M.A.T. degrees in English and has completed her M.B.A. studies. She lives in northern California. ISADORA TURGENEV TENSED up. She recognized the voice coming over the intercom from the wrought-iron Hamilton House entrance gate. Hearing that voice complicated a day already anticipated to be a tough one.

As interim psychic team leader while her supervisor was in D.C., it was her job to handle any brewing situation—along with today’s official task of integrating into their close-knit team a temporary secretary on loan from The Watch Committee. The temp was rumored to have a less-than-sparkling personality.

Bringing a non-psychic into the routine of a top-secret facility was always tricky. Surprise, surprise. Another tricky element was standing at the gate. A few more words confirmed that, indeed, the visitor was Rebecca Fergus, niece to Nazi Spy and Occult Wizard Deryk Fergus.
