Once in the relative privacy of the kitchen, Jessica grabs my arm and pleads, "Tell me, tell me, tell me!"
"It was amazing," I breathe the last word. "Everything about him is just...so... Wow." I can’t even describe Xavier in a way that does him justice.
Jessica bounces up and down in her excitement. "Oooooh, like what?"
"For starters, he took me to Fulton Gardens, which you already know."
Jessica brings a hand to her forehead and pretends to swoon. "That place is so romantic! I took my senior pictures there. It’s quite a hike to get out there.”
I nod my head. "We met the owner, and she was so sweet. She even knows Xavier's dad. And then we went for a walk, and he had this cute picnic basket and a split of champagne. And he arranged for me to pick out a rose bush that we can plant here."
Jessica's mouth hangs open. "A rose bush, that you plant together? That's like getting a dog together."
"It is not."
"It's something that will be alive as long as your black thumb doesn’t kill it. It’ll symbolize your first date." Jessica raises her eyebrows, daring me to argue.
I hold up my hands. "I highly doubt Xavier put that much thought into the gesture, but ok."
Jessica shakes her head. "Most first dates consist of dinner, maybe a movie. Not a romantic garden, picnic, champagne, and roses bushes."
"I'm aware." My smile is wide. Xavier likes me. Whoever this guy is that Gigi and Cade have warned me against, he wasn’t the same person who took me on a date today.
