Released from federal prison after fifteen long years, Luke Stone boards a Greyhound bus bound for Texas, for home and the woman who holds his heart. Revenge haunts him no more and the unjust sentence is behind him for good.
He happily hangs up his neon dreams for a paint brush and hammer, and trades his convict clothes for jeans and a work shirt. All of the plans and dreams made through letters over the many years can now become reality.
Darlina Flowers has waited her entire adult life to become Mrs. Luke Stone, but will the hardships of starting over with nothing be too much? She and Luke face the trials that come their way from extreme poverty to an almost deadly heart attack. She stands beside Luke and together they work to build a life one piece at a time. Together they can overcome any obstacle no matter how difficult and prove that love can truly conquer all.
Their love is tested to the core as the story unfolds.
Multi-Award winning author, Jan Sikes, began her writing journey around the age of eight.
Primarily, the stories she writes are true stories about the journey of two people moving through adversity in order to grow and learn to become better humans. She believes with all her heart, there is something worth sharing in these stories. Bits and pieces of wisdom, hard-learned lessons and above and beyond all, love…True love that you read about in fiction stories…and yet this is truth. The old saying that truth is stranger than fiction fits the stories that she shares.
Passionate about her writing projects, Jan is driven to tell a deeply personal story with the hope that it might touch someone’s heart or life in a positive way.
She also releases a music CD of original songs along with each book that fits the time period of the story. Why? Because the stories revolve and evolve around a deep-rooted passion for music
Jan resides in North Texas, has five grandchildren and in her spare time, loves to volunteer at Texas music festivals. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Musicians Museum, The North Texas Book Festival and the Texas Author’s Institute of History.
After fifteen years in prison, adjusting to the outside world wasn't easy. This short excerpt is a very small example of how he notices simple things that we take for granted - the chirping of crickets and cars meandering down the street. It was a long comeback journey.

HOME AT LAST
Long after Darlina had fallen into a deep slumber, Luke lay awake listening to the outside noises. It had been many years since he’d heard cars going down the street or crickets chirping. This would take some getting used to. In prison, his very life depended on sleeping with one eye open attuned to the sounds around him.
