Terry
At a young age I was told I can do whatever I put my mind to,
So I made sure I always followed my goals and dreams.
I became an owner of a company that benefits others,
Giving back to society is what’s important to me.
This world is a tough place and I found where I fit in,
I knew that giving back to others was my passion.
I had to pay the price for my goals and dreams,
People always told me the world is just a cold place.
I was told that I can’t save the whole world,
That was never my intention, I just wanted to impact who I can.
There were so many passions that I had growing up,
Choosing one was something that would be hard to do.
I educated myself and my hard work paid off,
Becoming the owner of my own company a year ago.
In a tough business world, people are judgmental as it is,
I knew that being a woman would make it even harder.
Walking into business meetings with a bunch of men,
They never expect to see me walking into a conference room.
People see my name Terry as the CEO of the company,
And automatically think that it is a man who owns the company.
Until they go onto LinkedIn and see a woman’s face,
Then the mindsets change and the comments start coming.
Like a woman can’t own and run a company of her own,
Or what did she do to get to where she was.
No, there weren’t any illegal activities or sexual activities,
Why can’t a woman work hard enough to get to where she is?
Men aren’t asked these questions when they have a position of power,
So why do women have to deal with that on a consistent basis?
We get all of these stigmas and sexist comments coming from others,
When are we going to get to a place where we aren’t judged?
