Charlene's Struggles In Hollywood
Sometimes in life, we fail to realize that celebrities are human beings too. We hold them to a higher standard because they make so much money, live the lavish life and enjoy certain freedoms that other people don't have. This chapter is about Charlene who talks about being in Hollywood and how she struggles between keeping her sanity and appeasing and pleasing others. She loves the life she has because she gets to do what she loves but then there's those days where she wants to leave it all behind and go live a normal life with her family and closest friends.

The World We Live In
Charlene
Beauty, elegance, class, intellectual,
That’s what I would consider myself in a nutshell.
Not many people know the true me,
The people that do, I can count on my fingers.
I’ve spent years in this business and it’s hard,
People get caught up in the glitz and glamorous life.
There’s a lot of things you have to deal with when you get here,
Being an actress is the greatest thing for me.
I want to show my talent and ability to the world,
I don’t care for all the attention that comes with it.
Some people get caught up in it and embrace it,
A lot of days I just want to be alone and confined to my house.
But appearances, photo shoots and everything else gets in the way,
People are always around me and it gets to me after a while.
It’s weird seeing myself on billboards when I’m out,
I can’t drive alone without getting a phone call from someone.
Going out to a restaurant with friends can’t be done normally,
I have to call a restaurant, tell them I’m coming, go through a back entrance.
I get all of this preferential treatment from others like I’m entitled,
Sometimes it’s good, but a lot of times, I just want to be normal.
Go to the beach and be amongst the people and relax,
Some people don’t know who I am or won’t bother me and I appreciate that.
Then there are others who want to talk and take pictures,
I oblige because these people are what got me to where I am.
Going to events and the paparazzi are taking pictures of me,
I can’t even go shopping without them showing up to take pictures.
Having to call stores to tell them I’m coming by and make an appointment,
Just so they can shut down the store so I can just shop alone.
I just want to be normal and shop in a store with other people,
So sometimes, I just want to be normal like everyone else.
The beautiful home and the nice cars are awesome,
The reality is I can’t get buried with them when I die.
The nice house I have, I spend a lot of time in it alone,
It’s good in a way but then they’re days I want my best friends with me.
