Dear Family (Letter to Everyone)
I don’t know where to begin with this,
But to be honest this is a letter to my family.
59
Thank you for making me realize there’s more to life,
Than being on the block, shooting up a needle and selling drugs.
If it wasn’t for the dysfunction, I wouldn’t be where I am,
Had to fight and be strong and find a man who really cared for me.
Even though I have trust issues and I can’ t love unconditionally,
I forgive you all for the trials and tribulations you put me through.
Mom, thank you for making me realize a lot of things,
That you have personal issues within you that you have to solve.
I know I’ll need therapy for all that I’ve been through,
And I’m not afraid to admit that as a man.
Thank you grandma for doing whatever you could to help us,
You couldn’t do it all and it wouldn’t be fair to expect that from you.
The tough winters when it was cold outside,
The nights where I had no heat and barely any food to eat.
My apartment became a drug infested place,
Where I was stepping over people to go use the bathroom.
Don’t know how I’ve lived in this place for so long,
I guess selling drugs to pay the rent some months was worth it.
I’m not going to sit here and be angry writing this,
Everyone has problems and things to deal with.
To end this poem, it’s time that I let go of the hurt and pain,
And understand that, there’s a bright future ahead of me.
