The Heart and Mind
The heart and mind tell us different things,
We struggle with what’s right and wrong all the time.
This is what a lot of men feel when it comes to our hearts,
So come along for the ride of my thoughts.
The heart is torn into different pieces,
Like paper shredded on the floor needing to be picked up.
Our minds are fried like eggs in a pan,
The pressures of trying to figure out this word called love.
Trying to put the pieces together of both body parts,
Easier said than done in a world we think of as cold.
We experience the feelings and emotions we can’t explain,
We’re not ready to be open and vulnerable to our truths.
We fall in love with the different distractions in our lives,
It keeps our minds from thinking and our hearts from aching.

We all aren’t cold, ruthless and mean,
The depths of our souls need healing sometimes.
The men with the tough lives that we’ve endured,
They need the most love, care and healing they can get.
Our hearts want love and fulfillment from that one special person,
Our minds want peace, melancholy and ease.
We lose a sense of ourselves battling our hearts and minds,
We drown our sorrows in different ways and regularly.
