Tiffany had never thought much about being Korean before. She didn’t feel very Korean, or very American for that matter. She felt slightly out of place in both worlds.
What else can I say?
Continuing the best she could, “I like Korean food. I like to have my relatives around, though many of them don’t speak good English and my Korean is at elementary school level so… that’s kinda awkward. We go to this Korean Presbyterian Church and the services are in Korean so I mostly tune out.
“I guess I’m not a good Korean. I mean, I’m not like, you know, what the good Korean would look like, or act like I guess. I’m kinda loud and kinda sporty and not really the ideal Korean woman, if you know what I mean. Since I was little I was a tomboy and my parents aren’t happy about that. But I guess I like who I am. Weird thing, though, sometimes I forget I’m not white.”
