God Has Been Ridiculously Good to Me
This morning I was reading “The War in Your Head” by Bill Johnson, and he was talking about giving gratitude and praise to God while waiting on the manifestation of whatever it is that we are praying for. (Johnson, 2014)
Wednesday night’s sermon by Dr. Allen McCray at our church had the same theme “gratitude.” Dr. McCray talked about gratitude as a door to receiving even more from God. My accountability partner told me recently that I have a pattern of getting down emotionally after “unsuccessful” auditions and creating distance between myself and God. (McCray, 2019)
Bill Johnson quoted Psalm 103:1-2, which says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His Holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” At that moment, I just began thanking God for the good things He’s done, even though I currently have some real needs yet unanswered. (Johnson, 2014)
While thanking Him, the Holy Spirit dropped this in my spirit: “God has been ridiculously good to me!” My spirit lept inside me; it was almost as if He shouted it. I started thinking of the health of my kids and of my parents and so many other things that God has blessed me with, and I started saying it over and over again, “God has been ridiculously good to me!” And I’m not even close to attaining the level of blessing that I believe God has for my life. But instead of focusing on what I don’t have yet, what prayers haven’t been answered yet, what dreams have not manifested yet, I was able to focus on the ridiculously good things that God has already done in my life! Anybody with me?!
