So, these last two NDEs in this chapter illustrate that God is more than Light, He is also Love.
*We can see light. Many NDErs describe the Light seen as ultra bright and ‘white’ ‘cloudy’ even ‘snowy white’. It is very visible, while nevertheless having a mysterious impact on the psyche of the NDEr.
Some do not look away from that blinding Light and claim to have seen the face of God within that Light, but they are few so far.
*We cannot see love. It is less easy to identify than light is because it is unseen; it is something we experience, invisibly, inside ourselves, something we may feel. Nevertheless, it is reported by hundreds of NDErs that ‘God is Love’ and that God’s Love has permanently impacted their lives.
Although God’s Love and Light have already both been described together in our previous examples, the upcoming chapter focuses on His Love more than His Light, which is because His Love interacts with us more personally than His Light does.
Our eternal future depends largely on whether God is truly Love and whether He sincerely Loves us. We explore this possibility in the upcoming chapter.
But What Really Is Love?
Given that the greatest commandment is to ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind’ (Matthew 22:36-38), what is involved? And to love our neighbour as much as we love ourself (Matthew 22:39); how do we set about loving like that? It is not optional; we must at least try to.
Reading the above verses in different Bible versions helps us to grasp some of the breadth of what Jesus was communicating to us.
Love is difficult to define in detail. Thankfully, God will help us to develop our love because He is Love, and wants us to be His children practising love for others for eternity.
Many life and afterlife experiences illustrate that God’s character is Love and that He will help us as we sincerely and prayerfully set about obeying His commands about Love, both on Earth and in the afterlife.
