Carnal Moon
Nick rode the dark, grumbling Harley along the narrow lane to the house. Once he’d reached the back roads, the headlight was switched off. He saw better without it anyhow. After driving these roads for decades, he knew them inside and out.
Overhead, spiny branches loomed, shedding their colorful foliage. Through gaps in the trees, he spotted Club Moon. Housed in a large red barn, it served as a fetish club and a place for vampires to safely feed. Plenty of humans enjoyed being bitten and never noticed missing blood. Nick sensed Ana waiting for his summons as he rode past. First, he needed to settle his brain.
He brought the bike to a halt before an elaborate wrought iron gate housed between stone pillars encased in ivy. Around him, murky trees aided in blocking unwanted visitors. With a click from a remote, the gate slid open.
The drive continued another five hundred feet before turning into cobblestone. A white, two-story plantation house waited in the darkness. Thick curtains blocked sunlight and intrusive eyes, keeping the occupants mysterious. Tall columns interspersed with the porch surrounding the second floor. Neatly trimmed hedges followed the contours of the house and the manicured lawn. As if creating a protective bubble, trees surrounded the house and kept it hidden.
Built in 1860, it housed three vampires--Nick, Gabriel and Ambrose. The trio maintained the residence and the property, as well. With eighty acres surrounding them and thick trees concealing the house, they’d been able to hide who resided there for nearly two centuries.
On the right, a large carriage house had been converted into a garage for their vehicles. Crafted of natural stone, it contained four wide doors made of stained wood. One stood open, revealing a dark blue Avalanche. Nick backed the bike into a space next to the truck and shut it off.
