Ignis leaned forward. “What’s the largest bet you’ve ever made? What’s the most you’ve ever risked?”
“What do you care? Besides, your stakes won’t frighten me.”
Ignis nodded. “I know that. But I’m talking about stakes beyond your imagination. I’d like to see how much you’re willing to put on the line.”
“What kind of weird offer is this?” Jim asked. “And who in the hell are you?”
“Interesting choice of words,” Ignis said with a sinister smile. “Okay, here’s my offer. I’d like you to bet your soul, Mr. Steadman. I’d like you to gamble with your eternity.”
Jim’s jaw dropped. “What? Are you kidding me? You think you’re the devil? Who let you out of the asylum?” He laughed. “Well, Mr. Satan, or Lucifer, or whatever, I think you should leave now. The joke’s over and you’ve wasted enough of my time.”
