He looked directly at Jim for a moment, then turned away. But minutes later the man looked at him again. What’s with this guy? Finishing his drink, Jim took a roll of bills from his pocket and threw a fifty on the table. Then he walked directly to the bar to confront the man.
But the man was gone.
Jim called out to the bartender, “What happened to the guy who was just sitting here?”
“He left. You just missed him.”
“You know him?”
The bartender shook his head. “Never saw him before. Why?”
“He kept watching me and I wanted to know why.” “Didn’t say anything to me,” the bartender said. Jim walked to his car, occasionally looking over his shoulder. As he drove home, he checked the rear-view mirror more frequently than usual.
