JULIO NOTICED CARLOS nervously nibbling on his lower lip. He seemed distant and hadn’t said a word besides ‘morning’ when they began driving to work.
“You worried about something?” Julio asked.
Carlos squeezed his chin. “This thing with the phony documents. I’m more nervous about selling them now than when I first started. I feel like I’m living on borrowed time. Two other guys were picked up yesterday. Maybe I’ve just been lucky all these months.”
“Maybe you should stop doing it.”
“I don’t know, Julio. I’m making a lot of money, and we’ll need it badly if we have to go back to Mexico. Besides, I don’t know if I can get out of it so easy.”
