But sanctuary cities went on the back burner a few months later when Mike learned that the immigration bill would be challenged in court by the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Center for Immigration Justice.
Mike kept the lawsuit pretty much out of his mind for the next few months, but occasionally monitored the litigation as it wove its way through the legal system and eventually went to the California Supreme Court. However, that court refused to hear the case, saying it was a political matter better handled by legislators. But this wouldn’t stop here. It was too hot an issue.
Next stop, United States Supreme Court.
