When Breaks the Maelstrom is a buffet of short stories that tend to blur genre lines. The stories defy convention in that they are fantastical and are interludes into the lives of men, women, and otherworldly beings. Some events cannot be explained, except that we accept the supernatural. When we can break through the natural world's barrier, it is then that we can see other possibilities. We can suggest that myths, phenomena, and legends may be familiar with reality. When Breaks the Maelstrom begins, it is an excursion into some situation that we all may have faced at one time or another. Since all skeletons in closets are not yet devoid of flesh, it is only proper that we remake the frame to envision its beginnings. Some stories involve many different nationalities. Several stories continue characters who loom prominently in their telling, as they are the adventurers so many of us desire to be or become. Please enjoy as you venture into original and undiscovered realms of fantasy.

WHEN BREAKS THE MAELSTROM
It was Carleton Byrd who demanded that Ahmed “Get to it.” Ahmed walked over to the only table in the room. He extracted something from under the belly of the table and gently placed the thing on the table. Ahmed beckoned for Mr. Byrd to come to the table and claim his prize.
As Carleton walked over to the table, the object began to emit a glow that showed that the thing was of metal. It was also observed that there was a hollowed-out handprint in which one could place their hand. Carleton gazed up at Ahmed, and Ahmed pointed to Mr. Byrd’s right hand.
In expectation of power and glory, Carleton placed his right hand in the handprint of the book. A clicking sound was heard from the book, and the book began to slowly open as Carleton withdrew his hand. The book opened to the only page that was in the book, with three words displayed that read, SAY YOUR NAME.
