As Julie continued to look at the door, Doni hopped off of her lap and walked over to a bookshelf where a few small fountains were running. She picked up one of the river stones from the bottom of the fountain and inspected it. “Pretty stone,” she said, and plopped it back into the water.
Julie, hearing the tiny splash, turned to see what Doni was doing. “Don’t play with the rocks,” she told Doni.
“They’re stones,” Doni corrected her. “Rocks are all rough, dirty and different. Stones are smooth and magical.”
“Then Doni,” Julie said, “find a magical stone and make a wish. We need some luck.”
