There was a big explosion that, as Andrew recalled, sent things flying everywhere, but then he remembered what looked like the debris freezing in air and being sucked back to its original position.
Regardless of what he thought he saw, Andrew opened his eyes and found himself laying on the garage floor. He sat up, unsteadily, and removed his goggles. He was frustrated, and looked down at the ground. Then he looked up at his workbench and at the clock. It now read 7:05. How did he get on this side of the garage? The door to the house opened and Julie walked out in her bathrobe heading toward the refrigerator in the garage. She looked over and saw Andrew sitting on the ground looking very confused.
“I thought I just left you upstairs in bed, asleep. How did you get dressed and down here so fast? And how did you get so dirty already?”
“I,” Andrew didn’t know what to say, “I’ve been down here for a while.”
Julie laughed and shook her head. “You just can’t wait to get at your experiments, can you? Well, go ahead and work and I’ll have breakfast ready in a little while. Then you can come in and take a shower before you come back out. And try not to get too dirty, again.”
“Yeah. I promise. I just need to look at a few things,” Andrew said getting up to standing. “I want to see if I have this circuit hooked up correctly.”
Julie grabbed the eggs from the refrigerator and turned to go back in.
“Julie?” Andrew said, stopping her.
“What is it sweetheart?”
“This may sound strange, but what day is it?”
Julie looked at Andrew, concerned, and said, “It’s Saturday. All day. How could you forget? You were looking forward to today all week.”
“Just had one of those moments,” he said smiling. “Just wanted to make sure I was thinking correctly. Thanks hon. I’ll be in shortly. Love you.”
“Love you too,” she said, looking at him suspiciously, and then she walked into the house.
Andrew wondered if he was slowly going crazy until he walked over to the workbench and picked up his clipboard. He stared at the writing on the top sheet of paper. He read the notes he had written early Saturday evening, or at least the note that he would write later today. It took him a while to understand what had just happened. He went back in time twelve hours.
