“That’s why Jesus died. No one is worthy. We are all sinners. When you are baptized, you are cleansed because Jesus gave His life for you. Jesus took your punishment.”
“How long will that cleansing last?” Pat stood and looked across the parking lot. “Knowing me, I’ll sin again before I turn around. No, I can’t do this.” He walked down the steps and headed for his car.
“Pat, wait!” James ran after him. “Listen to me. You think I’m perfect just because I’m a Christian? Is Jim perfect? Can any one of us be perfect? No! We all sin. But because we are in Christ, we can ask for forgiveness. God will forgive us.”
“Really?” Pat was skeptical. “And if we keep sinning and making mistakes?”
“God will always forgive us. Just as long as we’re truly sorry for what we have done and try to change and do what God wants.”
“The Bible says that?”
“Yes. Look here.” James pulled a small New Testament from his shirt pocket. "Look what 1 John 1:9 says. ‘If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.’”
Pat still couldn’t believe. “God will do that? Forgive me no matter?”
