“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6).
Who is God that He wants us to believe in Him? What should we believe about Him? Why must we seek Him? How will He reward us if we look for Him? What is man’s purpose here? Why is it that no amount of riches, no degree of fame and power, can satisfy us and make us feel complete? What is it that we hunger and seek after but can’t find without God?
The Bible answers all these questions. It tells us why no matter who we are or what we own on earth, we are never satisfied. We don’t realize that what our soul needs is a relationship with God. “At night my soul longs for You, Indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently,” Isaiah said in Isaiah 26:9. We read in Psalm 63:1: “O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You.” God has instilled in us a fierce hunger for Him that nothing on earth can satisfy. Augustine, one of the early Christian Fathers, (354-430 A. D.), wrote “You have made us for yourself O Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in thee.”
