Job loved and obeyed God and refused to curse Him. But did Job know if God loved Him? How much did God love him? Job was a rich man, and he realized that God gave him everything he had. Suddenly, everything he owned was gone, even all his children. He himself was full of misery, tortured physically and emotionally.

Many thoughts must have gone through Job’s mind as he sat in misery scraping the sores covering his body. He did not understand why he was suffering so much. Why had he been born just to end up like this? He could find no rest or joy. Why did not God end his life and give him relief? Even though Job cried out to God in his pain and misery, it seemed that God was just watching him. He was not answering his prayers or helping him.

Where was Job to look for comfort? He did not have the Bible to read. The book of Job does not tell us that there was a prophet of God he could go to. Even his wife said, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die” (2:9).
