Chapter 14 What Is In It for Me?
The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. 1John3:8 Last year I explained salvation to someone who had had gone through seven “exorcisms” over a period of ten years and become progressively worse. We went through five scriptures pertaining to salvation with several interruptions and the phone disconnecting. She believed that when she stood before Jesus He would see the evil spirits and send her to hell. She now knows her eternity with Jesus is secure. She had been charged several hundred dollars for prayer. She had to have surgery from an injury sustained during one of the exorcisms. She asked me, “If you don’t accept money, what is in it for you?”
The amount of backlash from dealing with this kind of ministry is tasking. There have been books written about the emotional, physical, and spiritual toll. If you are doing it for a living or egotistical reasons you are pretty much spared these. The enemy is well aware of our motives.
What can appear to be effective is over time proven to be a show that has been on to keep us from realizing the truth. Each of us has a destiny that we were created for. If we can be misdirected we can essentially make our lives about something it was never meant to be. We can have family, friends and comfort and miss the very purpose we were created for. When we stand before our creator we find this out to our dismay. As well our actions or lack thereof affect the destinies of those around us.
For a poor single mother whose child needs internet access so he can do his homework there is a need that affects his destiny. For a woman who lives in fear of facing God and being sent to hell, there is a destiny. For someone who has suffered panic attacks for twenty years from a trauma suffered there is a destiny. All these destinies affect the destiny of those around them. When they are helped to fulfill the purpose for which they were created many lives can be touched. Undoing bondages and adversity creates this opportunity. There is a far reaching effect that we may never see this side of heaven. But we can please Jesus by participating in our destinies that were the reason He appeared. Often this involves letting people tell their stories and listening just as we expect Jesus to listen to us.
