After 20 minutes, just as I was about to leave, a short, young man walked in. The Bible under his arm probably weighed close to what he did. He introduced himself as Samuel, saying he had been called to preach in the Apostolic Church where he had been recently ordained.
Samuel asked if I was there to pray for the young man in bed. I shared my belief that God wanted to heal Matthew but nothing happened. Samuel said, “Why don’t we pray for him together?”
After dealing with the onrush of pride I realized two things. First, without God’s help Matthew was going to lose his remaining eye. Second, that collective prayer is more powerful. I agreed and moved to the side of the bed and Samuel remained at the foot of the bed.
We began to pray and God’s presence filled the room again. Then this young preacher began to weep. Crying is when tears roll down your face. Weeping is when puddles form on the floor. Matthew’s entire body began to shake. The bed itself began to shake.
We stood and watched for close to 15 minutes. The swelling on the right side of Matthew’s face went down before our eyes. The eye scheduled for removal opened. The young man exclaimed, “I can see!”
