“Did you know that there are some immigrants women who have lived in this country for more than twenty, thirty or even forty years who can’t speak English? To those cultures that oppress women, multiculturalism provides them with the platform to do it in the middle of the UK. In addition, Beans, multiculturalism unintentionally supports forced marriages. Young girls are forced into marriages in these groups created and protected by multiculturalism.” I could not help it, but express my own observation.
“These are some of the major failures of multiculturalism, Dolly” Beans agreed with me, but he could not work it out why I said it. There I was, as a woman, going to see a witchdoctor against my will. Ice did not get the message either. Thank heavens they could not read between the lines otherwise they would have doubted my sincerity of seeing the witchdoctor, while holding onto those divergent views. But they were blind to the fact that they were biting the hand that feeds them, making jokes of the system that allows them to practice their tradition, their witchcraft. I agreed entirely with what they were saying, but the irony lay with what they were practising. They were benefiting from multiculturalism but they appeared oblivious to that fact.
“Women circumcision continues unabated within these communities in a country that gave birth to women rights.” I had to say it.
“While the Home Office spends resources on forcing immigrant nurses and doctors who possess degrees obtained in English in this country’s universities, to write English tests to become citizens.” Ice agreed with me.
“Resources that could be well spent on policing immigrants from maiming their children’s private parts,” Beans added.
“Prioritising speaking good English over female genital mutilation,” Ice added. The conversation really kept me distracted from the purpose of our evil journey.
