Mori sat next to Jimmy while they enjoyed their morning coffee. Her mood was low, and it sickened him. “Honey, you’ve got to let go. She loves us, and I’m sure that keeping this from you was because of that love. She knows how you feel about Gloria.” He lowered his head so he could see into her eyes. “Mori? Are you there? Jimmy to Mori.” He tickled her ribs.
She pushed his hand aside, “Stop it, Jimmy. This isn’t funny. Ya know how she adores the idea of the grand Ms. Templeton. And she fully understands my feelins’ for the woman. I know I sound retched the way I talk about Gloria, but what if I’ve lost her to that witch? I was good, I didn’t tell her the awful things the witch did to us. I left out the stories about the sex kitten, which by the way would’ve put an end to my daughter’s love affair with the witch.” She looked up at him. “I was a good mother, an’ now this, I find out that she’s been lyin’ to me for a year.” She glared at him, “And that my own husband has been keepin’ her secret. Jimmy, you’ve never deceived me like this before, you’ve broken my heart. Ya know, Jimmy? She doesn’t know that I was the one that brought her into this world. She wouldn’t be around if I hadn’t broken into that cabin and surprise, suddenly, I’m a midwife. I still shudder over that night. Sara was so weak, and I had to be strong enough for both of us. No, I take that back, all three of us. I didn’t know that Emma would end up bein’ my daughter. I did it because it was the right thing to do.”
