“Well, I’m surprised that Gloria would have mentioned them if it wasn’t to tell you that they were killed in an auto accident.”
Paul stared across the table, and felt lightheaded. He couldn’t speak for several seconds, but then slowly forced himself to reply. “How old were you, Katie?” Not realizing what he had said, he waited for her to respond.
“Oh my God, you did know them. This is way too personal for you to explain it as a passing conversation with Gloria.” She leaned across the table so that he couldn’t ignore her, “Look at me, Paul. My name is Emma, not Katie. And how the hell did you know my parents?”
Paul stood in anger. His eyes glared at her. “How old were you, Emma?”
She retracted some, and was almost afraid of him. “I was six years old. Now tell me how you knew them.”
