Book Excerpt
No Fear!
Susi steps off the train, knowing that she is protected by a
light, but feels dread. Unaware of time, she walks down the street of a quaint
town, toward a small house behind an open gate. As she nears the home, she sees
that the door is ajar. She slowly pushes it so she can enter. Everything inside
is antique or is it? She’s startled by hearing sounds in the house, and knocks
some papers off a table. Bending down, she picks them up to see some
odd-looking stamps. She places them back on the table and walks to the back of
the house and finds herself standing in the doorway of the bathroom. Inside,
she sees a woman leaning over an old claw foot bathtub. She’s holding something
down, something that is struggling for air. Susi takes a few more steps and
stretches her neck to see what it is. Horror enters her body, and she freezes.
The woman who is holding her baby under the water loosens her grip as the baby
stops the struggle. She turns and stares into Susi’s eyes, a cold glare that
sends shivers throughout Susi’s body. She wants to scream but no sound comes
out. She turns and runs, struggling to find the train. She sees it but it looks
like it’s ready to leave. Terrified, she runs toward it, and as if it’s waiting
for her, the doors close as soon as she enters. She hears a voice, a distant
voice. “One, you are coming up.” The voice is becoming louder, it’s closer to
her now. “Two, you are becoming more aware. Three. Open your eyes, you are now
awake.”
