WEDNESDAY morning started with a blast of light coming through the windows of their motel room. It wasn’t long after that when the thundering sound of something made Jimmy and Mori jump off the hard mattress. They had thought it would be a good idea to spend the night near the airport, but it had turned out to be an unpleasant experience. “Jimmy, what was that? Jesus, is it a bomb?”
Jimmy was also shaken from the explosive sound coming from the outside, but worked hard to look and behave untouched by it. Still, he ran to the window to see the massive storm outside. “What the heck! Mori, come here. Do you remember ever seeing a storm like this in February?”
She bravely went to the window, and standing next to him, said, “Jimmy, is this a sign to stay here? Maybe it isn’t a good idea to go to this other country. I mean, I want to see Emma, but if we die tryin’, it isn’t gonna do her any good.” She looked up at him, “What do we do, Jimmy?”
“I know. This doesn’t make sense. I can’t remember seeing a storm like this in my lifetime at this time of year.” He put his arm around his wife and gave her his look she’d seen thousands of times before. It warmed her insides and she pulled him closer.
“I wana see her too, Jimmy.” She turned and looked at the enemy in the room, that horrible mattress. “But could we pack and go to the airport now? After all, they did say we should be there early for an international flight.”
A funny but cute sound came out of him. “Not sure they meant four hours, but tell you what? I have an idea how we can waste one of those hours.” He ran to the shower, but before getting to the door, picked up a towel and threw it hard at her. As he knew it would, that was all he needed to do to get her to run after him. When she reached him, he threw his arms around her, and turned his bride around so he could push her into a shower that would take her mind off the hard mattress forever.
About an hour later, she was dressed, and Jimmy couldn’t help chuckle at the expression on his Mori’s face. He said with a manly tone, “Looks like I know how to take the fear out of that lovely little body of yours, Honey.” He walked to the window, and sighed, “I think your screaming scared the storm right out of the sky, Mori.” He ran to the bathroom and locked himself in before she could slap, or bruise his arm. He was having so much fun with her that he forgot that his pants and shirt were on the other side of the door. In a lame sounding voice, he asked if she would allow him to come out and dress.
“Was it a good scream, Jimmy… did ya enjoy it?”
She hadn’t changed a bit, that spunky side of her was perhaps what he loved most. “Oh, Baby. It was a scream that can only be compared to the hotheaded thunder we heard before. In fact, I’d be willing to bet that this town will never see the likes of such a storm again, with the Gods of the heaven too afraid to stray over these skies again.”
The door opened slowly, “Jimmy, if we didn’t have a schedule, I’d jump ya again right here an’ now.” She was dangling his pants in front of him when he grabbed them and tossed them across the room.
“I do believe we have a little extra time. Want to do it again?”
Laughing, she turned and went to her suitcase. “Whoa, have you forgotten that we are headed to Paradise? Save your strength until tonight, Mister.” She zipped her bag, and then sat on the bed, just staring at him. “But ya could give me a great show while you dress.”
With that, Jimmy used what he called his slinky walk across the room. “I really need some gold chains around my neck to give you a proper show, but I can improvise.” To his dismay, in the middle of his show, she picked up the phone to schedule the airport taxi.
“What? I like it, Jimmy. But I have to save myself for Paradise.” She fell back on the bed in an uproar over his hurt expression. Finally, she sat up, “Jimmy, you are without a doubt, the sexiest husband a girl could have. Now, hurry. They said we’d be leavin’ in five minutes.”
