“Dr. Goodfriend, is that you?” He turned to see two young men with sand sticking to their salty wet skin.
“Yes, and you two were in this morning’s session. What did you think of it?” These were the last people Paul wanted to see, to associate with.
Pablo put his hand out and Paul was forced to oblige him, to touch him. It made him sick inside. Next, was Randy. What rotten luck.
Randy was first to speak, “I don’t know, Doc. Maybe I have no past life, it didn’t really do much for me.”
But it was Pablo who shook Paul’s soul. “I see something. I am not sure what it is, but I smell violence all around me. My hands are tied behind my back and there is a hood over my head. I want to shout for help but I am too afraid. I know I am to die when you wake us up. Doctor, I do not want to go back. If I go under again, do I return to the same place?”
“Tell me your name, son.”
“Pablo, it is Pablo Martinez.”
Paul pressed himself for strength, but knew he had to get away from this boy, this young man. “Pablo, I can’t promise you anything, but your mind is unlocking your past. Some of these pasts may be disturbing, but we are made from good and bad. It’s highly likely that you will have a nicer experience next time. Come back tomorrow morning and we’ll analyze all of this. In the meantime, why don’t you boys continue to enjoy this beach?”
“Doc, my name is Randy. Do I need to come tomorrow? Since I didn’t see anything, there’s nothing for me to talk about.”
Paul forced a laugh, “Please, both of you come. And Randy, we’ll go through another session on Wednesday and you might see something then. But tomorrow, it’ll be good for you to hear the others’ stories so this will all begin to make more sense to you.” He took a few steps backward to show he was done with them. “Enjoy your afternoon, boys.”
Paul was struck by Pablo’s handsome features. Dark eyes, narrow nose, and defined cheek bones. He was trim but muscular, and the innocence he displayed was charming. He was someone’s son. Paul turned quickly to get away, but heard the boys one last time before the pounding of the waves drowned them out.
“Randy, we can go find a headless body.”
Paul’s phone interrupted his thoughts but the voice on the other end didn’t help his mood. “I’m not sure about this anymore. What? Ok, just get it done.” He headed for the front desk to ask for Susi’s room number.
