Bobby looked up and saw a group of people around his bed. His eyes were trying to focus, but his hearing was fine, he recognized some of the voices. Then he heard the thunder strike again, and fear took over. He became nervous, and thought of Susi. She wasn’t in his arms, and then he remembered. He’d laid her down safely, but was she still on the train? Panic took over and he heard scrambling in the room. What were they saying? He couldn’t quite understand.
Then he heard her voice, “Bobby, I’m here, I’m touching you. Come back to me, come back to our child.” He opened his eyes and this time he could see.
“Oh my God, Susi!” He was sobbing when she put her head on his chest. “Is this real? Susi, is this you? Where are we?”
Paul put his hand on his shoulder. “You’re back and you brought Susi with you. You are an amazing man, Bobby.” He was trying to hold back his own emotions and that had stunned him. The ordeal was so emotional and he was a big part of it, but still. He hadn’t had strong feelings like this in years.
Gloria and Emma had stayed at the end of the room, not wanting to intrude. Jimmy and Mori were in the doorway, shocked at what they were witnessing.
Jeremy asked if he felt strong enough to sit, and when they saw Bobby respond without words, it was lifting. Another bolt of lightning lit up the sky and the light came in through the windows. Bobby laughed, and wiped his face of the tears that he had thought were the result of rain, a torrent of rain. “It seems that there’s quite the storm outside.”
Nervously, they all laughed, and as they watched him get off the bed, he held his wife in his arms. “If it’s alright with you doctors, I think I’ll take my wife to our room. And, Doc. You won’t see us in session tomorrow. I think we’ll just do a little vacationing for the rest of our stay if you don’t mind.”
