Gloria wiped her tears, and asked her how she knew about the Fabulous Boxer Boys.
“My mom told me years ago, and tomorrow the entertainment is going to be very similar. Only it will be the Tecate Girls dancing in the outside square.” A serious expression filled her face then, “Tomorrow my mom will be here, and I don’t want to hurt her, so if I seem less loving toward you for a few days, please know that you are in my heart.” Emma was still dealing with blurred eyes and now a strained tummy. “You know, maybe memories like the Boxer Boys can be in your conversations with Mom. I mean, those memories belong to both of you.”
“Mori and I had our problems, but that was a long time ago, and because of you, I’m determined to fix my relationship with her.” She waved her index finger in a scolding way, but her eyes were smiling. “But if she jumps on me with fists coming my way, I will have to fight back, you know.”
“That never happened, did it?” Emma’s nose hurt from the wine coming out. “Ouch, Gloria. That hurt.”
“It actually did happen once. We were on the floor in Sticks, and she was mad at me for a good reason. It was such a good reason that I don’t want to tell you. I guess I had a mean streak in me toward her, but I don’t feel that way anymore. Any woman that could do as good a job with her daughter as she did with you, and of course, your dad too… well, they have to be people that I’d like. Your mom’s got spunk, that’s for sure. I believe that’s what your dad always said about her. Why don’t you try to forget about all that, and see how things work out? All three of us love you a lot, so let us work out our differences, ok?”
