“Paul, you don’t look very well.”
She was right, his head felt light and his mouth suddenly dry. He wanted, even needed to excuse himself. He wasn’t thinking clearly when he uttered his next few words, “My God, you’re Ben’s daughter.” He stood, and looked down at her. “Forgive me, Emma. I do feel sick and need to get to my room. I’ll see you in the morning.”
Without wasting any more time, he left her sitting at the table with her thoughts wondering why he’d mentioned Ben’s name, and why he knew that kind of information about her past. She waited for a few minutes and then composed herself, and went to her room.
