“Katie, you had nearly a year to make him understand, and it appears to me that he still plans on marrying you.” Ben’s tone was that of discouragement, when he stopped and reached his arms out to the falling snow. “Listen, Katie. Hear the flakes landing on the river? They make a little pinging sound.” He pulled her close and found her lips. Touching her gave him a rush through his body like nothing he’d ever experienced, a feeling that was better than lust. Their heat was mounting and they were nearly to the point of no return, when they heard a clanging sound from Gloria’s trailer. Ben moved away from her. “Come on, I need to get you home. We’ve done nothing wrong tonight so don’t act guilty when we knock on Cue’s door. He has the keys to my Jeep.”
In the trailer, Gloria cursed herself for knocking the lamp over. Now that they were on to her, it would be more difficult to watch them. She needed to cover her actions, so she grabbed her coat and gloves, and entered the snowy night. She waved at the two walkers and ran toward them. “Hey, you two. I see you have the same idea as me. Isn’t this wonderful?” She laughed with delight as she caught up with them. “I’ll bet Quinton’s still up. Let’s get him out here to play with us, what do you think?” She fixed her stare on Katie’s eyes and was sure that she could detect guilt.
