Gloria walked into Sticks at half past one to see the group working hard. Max had nearly completed his job, with the help of Cue and Ben. Mori and Katie had posted more flyers, and were working on the pool tournament plans. All eyes were on Gloria as she walked in, and it was clear that Mori had told them about her late night rendezvous at Templetons by the coolness that greeted her. In spite of the stale air, Gloria had a skip in her walk and a smile that shone, as she thought about her secret. “Hey, guys. Have I got some news for you.” She was elated and anxious to tell them about her new idea.
Her friends looked the other way and continued on with their work without a word. Knowing that they would thank her in a few moments, she poured herself a cup of coffee, and took a seat, waiting for the auditions to begin.
Cue was the only one to join her, pulling up a chair next to her. “Gloria, tell me that Mori is jealous of you, and that you’re still in my camp.” He looked at her, his eyes telling her that he wanted to believe anything she could offer him.
She grabbed him and gave him a big hug. “Does that tell ya what you want to know, Quinton?” Her face sparkled. Then, she jumped up and went to the front door to make sure it wasn’t locked. Outside were over a dozen handsome young men, eager to get in, all shivering in the snow while wearing nothing but red boxer shorts. She flung the door open and the wind blasted the last of the winter air into the room, as the chilly boxer boys made their entrance. One by one, she welcomed them to Sticks. After the last of the red boxers made his way into the warm room, she skipped over to the jukebox and made several selections, each with an easy beat for the dancers.
The music started and the boxer boys, now on the stage, began their dancing. Gloria sat in front with paper and pen, ready to score the dancers.
