“Tony, I like to thank my dedicated customers, so please accept this little token.” He reached into the top drawer of his cherry wood desk and pulled out three coupons. “Really, this is a small gesture, so it would make me happy if you would take these and enjoy your complimentary massages.”
Tony could not believe his good fortune, and quickly held his hand out to receive his gift. “Mr. Templeton, you don’t have to do this, but thank you. I will enjoy these.” He put them in his pocket before Templeton could change his mind. “This place of yours is nice, much nicer than next door. And the help you have here is more pleasant than the people at Sticks.”
“Yes, Sticks. Tony, I was sorry to hear about the incident over there. I know you are a fine cook so it is obvious that the loss is theirs.” He paused, as if an idea was being formed, and looked at him with an expression of surprise. “As a matter of fact, we could use you here in the kitchen. I already have a master chef, but he needs help. Are you by any chance still looking for a job?”
Tony was elated over the entire conversation he was having with this important man. “Mr. Templeton, I would be honored to join forces with you.”
Templeton laughed, thinking how simple this man was. “Join forces, it sounds like we are at war.” He smiled at the man across from him. “Ok, Tony. Go find Jim and fill out the employment papers.” He stood and held his hand out. “Welcome to our little family.”
When he was alone, Templeton buzzed Jim. Moments later, he appeared at the door. Templeton told him to come in and close the door. “Ah, Jim. Tony is going to help out in the kitchen, and I need you to do a delicate job for me. He must think that it’s your idea, but I want you to persuade him to play with the inventory at Sticks. It will be tricky since he has been banned from the place but tell him to find a way. I want them to find themselves low on liquor just before a weekend rolls around, and get him to do it before the fishing season opens.”
Jim smiled at the devious mind of his boss. “This won’t be a problem, sir. Consider it taken care of.” He turned to leave the room but was stopped as he reached for the door.
